St. Marys-

Sandusky- or Sa-un-dus-tee, Wyandot for "Water within pools".

Scioto- Wyandot Indian word for "Deer"

Stillwater-

Stonelick-

Sunday Creek- The name derives, as the story goes, from early surveyors who reached the creek on a Sunday, and so named it after the day of discovery.

Tiffin- Edward Tiffin, 1st governor of Ohio

Tuscarawas- Indian for "open mouth"

Vermilion- Vermilion native says that river has to do with the color of the clay on the banks of sections of the river. The Indians named it and he has seen the Vermilion colored clay from a canoe. He says it is not bright red, but red nevertheless. He also thought the Indians used it to paint their faces.

Walhonding- Indian for "White woman creek"
