Burk's Falls, Canada
Oct 4th through Oct 11 (figuring 4 and 11 are drive days)

Address: 255 South Service Road, Armour Township, Burk's Falls, Ontario, Canada

We will be staying at our place and doing day trips out each day. We have water, electricity (in vicinity of house) and an outhouse. The house may or may not be under roof at the time but we have plenty of room for tents and room if you want to bring a camper. The owners are charging $0.00 per night for camping.

Some of the paddling options:

- Magnatawan River from Burk's Falls to Lake Cecebe, 14 miles easy slow moving river
- Distress River - if enough water in October - it will be an up and back
- Pickerel and Jack Lakes
- Doe Lake - there is also a swimming area here if interested
- Muskoka River from Arrowhead Park to downtown Huntsville
- Day trip into Algonquin at entry point 3 if interested - can paddle Magnatawan and Hambone Lakes - charge would be a car pass for each vehicle we take. We do not want to get anywhere near the highway 60 section of Algonquin - the whole city of Toronto comes up to see the fall colors that weekend and it is a zoo.
- Anything else I find before then

This is Canada's Thanksgiving weekend so the theme for the Potluck will be Thanksgiving Dinner. If you do not want to bring up all your food Huntsville and Burk's Falls have grocery stores. Huntsville is on your way in and is bigger and better prices (there is an Independent Grocery at the exit for Rt 60 and 11 - right off the exit). Burk's Falls grocery is smaller but has most things and runs higher in prices.

You do need a passport or the passport card to come up. If you are coming up for the less than the whole time you probably do not want to come up on either the 5th or 6th as everyone else will be coming up then and you probably do not want to go home on the 8th because 400 will be bumper to bumper - stop and go the whole way.

There are several routes to come up - QEW to 407 to 400 to 11 is probably the quickest but know that 407 is a toll road and is about $20.00 each way (depending on the time and day you use it). They read your plate and mail you a bill. Ways around it are to do QEW to 403 to 401 to 400 to 11 but traffic can be heavy on 403/ 401. There is a way around some of 400 by taking 27 - a two lane, small town road and you would have to look it up - I don't know it well enough to tell you how to do it.

Hope to see all of you there in the fall - Liz
