Pigeon River, Indiana
July 26, 27, 28, 29

I am excited to be hosting the Pigeon River trip at the end of July. This is a river that OHCRA has not visited in the past. Wil and I paddled the 10 miles that we will be doing on saturday and it was a blast! Fun things to go over, under, and around, and there are very few straight sections, plus a couple of surprises along the way. The water is fairly clear and most of the river is not deep.

We will be staying at the Crooked Creek Outpost located at 2998 N 1100 E, La Grange, IN 46761. Phone 260-336-0757. I have reserved 4 primitive campsites, which cost $15.00 per night each. There is plenty of space to bring a camping trailer if you would like, but no electric hookup. Just tell the owner you are with the group under my name. There is a water spicket for every 2 campsites and an inside shower that takes quarters to run. There are no trees between campsites, and few in the camping area, but does back to woods. The campground backs to the river.

You can travel west either on the turnpike and approach from the north, or else take Hwy 20 west and approach from the south. You will take state route 1050 north off of Hwy 20 and head north. After a couple of 90 degree turns it will become 1100 E. It is easy to find, there is nothing else in the area. They do have a website if you type in the name of the campground. Be sure to bring bug repellent as most of the river is bordered by low lying areas that serve as water fowl habitat.

I have reserved the sites for the 26-28 of July if anyone would like to paddle on Friday. There are several options for a nice paddle on friday. The river in this area is surrounded by a wildlife management area so there are no houses until just before the take out. Please let me know if you plan to stay Thursday night or would like to paddle on Friday. This is also a great area to ride bikes as it is so lightly travelled. Dirt/gravel and blacktop roads, lightly rolling.

Theme for Saturday feast is: Bring something good to eat. All the better if its homemade!
My number is 260-449-0465.
Looking forward to it!
Lance
