Auglaize River
June 12-13-14

I've made final arrangements for our trip next week. Firewood will be provided by the sawmill.(don't bring any) Also we have arranged for a working tour of the sawmill on Saturday morning at 8:00AM-? (probably means a 10:00AM shuttle time.) I think this will be pretty cool to see! Our guest Kenny has a health issue at this time, so we will be wearing masks while on the tour. If you don't have one, I can provide a few. Reminder: no water or toilet on site, bring your chemical toilet and water. Gas stations and McDonalds within 5 minutes. Call me if you have any other questions. Wil 419-234-7380

Hey paddlers! I think we'll try to make the June trip happen!

We'll be staying as guests of Siefker's Sawmill. They own property along the Auglaize river. Years ago when my boys were in scouts, we camped there by their cabin. (sorry, we can't use the cabin) There's plenty of room for tent camping only, but bring your own water and chemical toilets (gas stations and McDonalds within 5 minutes. We do have the use of the 3 fire pits near cabin.

I'll be there Thursday nite thru Sunday. We can run a 7 mile trip on Friday/Sunday just north of Buckland, Ohio (main street bridge a few miles north of town) to Agerter road access (Lima metro park access).

Saturday's trip will be from the sawmill cabin 10 miles to Ft Jennings park.

Lance, Denny, and I ran it Saturday with no low spots, BUT that was after 4 inches of rain just earlier in the week. I'm hoping for a little rain right before our trip. One caution, we do have a lowhead dam about halfway thru to portage around.

NOW, SOCIAL DISTANCING. Many of us are taking the pandemic guidelines seriously. If you do, or if you don't, Please be responsible and respectful of others. I don't wear a mask to protect me, I wear a mask to protect YOU.. Shuttles and meals are the issue. We can run more shuttles and less people in each vehicle, wear masks, adjust to whatever your comfort level will be.

Bring your own food to prepare and eat and enjoy it around the fire with others. I've got a couple recipes I've been wanting to try, to use on the solo trip Tony has coming up in October.

Since our camping trip is free, your thoughts on a host gift for Vickie and Kenny Siefker for their hospitality.

Here's our location: Siefker's Sawmill 8705 W. State Rd, Lima Ohio 45807. Coming from the east, take 309 west out of lima to State Rd. Turn left onto State Rd. Make a left at the 4 way stop, then a quick right onto Good Rd and look to your right for the road down to the cabin (there's a gravel lot with trucks parked there ( I'll have an OHCRA sign there.) Should be plenty of room to park by the cabin, if not, we'll use the gravel lot for overflow.

Stay safe, wash your hands, see you on the river!
