Eagle Point Campsite

The August trip to Charles Mill at Eagle Point Campground began on a Thursday night with Ron and Jillinda getting there and setting up first. My site along with Ann Hauser was not available until Friday. So I, Laura, drove down on Thursday to have dinner and help out Ron set up camp. We then decided to go into Mifflin and have dinner at the Mexican restaurant called Chuys. A margarita or drinks may have been had to wash down the delicious food.

I went home with the intention of coming in the afternoon but at 7:30am I received word that the neighbors had left and our sites were open. While I was setting camp Ron and Jillinda went for an afternoon paddle. The lake was absolutely beautiful. Soon afterwards Ann showed up and with a little finagling backed her trailer in and set up camp. Ann's husband Eric came later that day to spend dinner and the evening with us. Later that day Karen Paulsen and her Vanagon showed up. Lance came and got his tent set and we all settled down to visit.

At some point we decided we needed to go up town and have ice cream at the local spot. Somehow they don't understand what a scoop in the real world looks like..it was double in size of anywhere I have ever gone to. Somehow we all managed to eat it all. Back to camp for the evening and by the campfire before bed.

Flooded Campsite

Saturday morning came and with it Ron and Jillinda's son wife and 4 kiddos came for a visit. Karen and I were planning a lake trip but before we could...well you know every Sat. on an outing has been RAIN, RAIN AND MORE RAIN. 2 oclock it began and the came the tornado sirens. I am a chicken and took cover up in the bathroom but after an hour it stopped. Around 3 to 4pm Tony came and so did Harold and Laurie. Tony had his camper and Harold picked out a good spot for his tent, so he thought. A false sense of calm came up and so we started the charcoal in the grill pit to cook our corn on the cob and steaks..Well you know where this story is going. We had put up 2 canopies over the picnic tables and then a large tarp for a wall. That did nothing to stop the fury of the 6 pm dinner time rain we have become used to on a Saturday dinner. 4 of us stood in the rain with umbrellas trying to keep the coals lit to cook on to no avail. By now Harolds tent is doing the backstroke and he is trying to unplug the drain pipes by the road. Luckly it did not go over the safe line of his tent floor and that evening he did not have a soaking wet inside. We got out a fry pan and finished cooking steaks a couple at a time..they were ssoooo good. The surf and turf menu was as follows STEAK, CLAM CHOWDER, GRILLED SHRIMP, BISCUITS, BAKED BEANS, BOILED POTATOES AND COBBLER. After a soggy dinner we had enough time to have a campfire before bedtime and all night rain again.

Lance got up in the morning and cooked everyone a fried potato and leftovers smorgasbord for breakfast. Sunday was as predicted..sunny and hot so Karen, Ron, Jill, and myself went to a tour of the lake. Tony and his 3 furry friends went in right by the campsite and did a tour around while Karen and I put in at the ramps and went down to the river. It was hot but so beautiful. We saw 1 bald eagle along the way. At some point Ron and Jillinda caught up with us and I decided to just sit by the bank and have lunch and take a solo trip back to the docks. Just as we were getting close to the take out the winds really picked up but we all made it. Back at camp Lance was all ready packed up and waiting for us to say goodbye. As everyone left I hung out with Ron and Jillinda and we got burgers from the ice cream joint and finished up the weekend around 4pm. I really enjoy our sites right by the lake and the easy access to the water. There is nothing like spending time with a group of wonderful people that came.

Happy Campers
